Coffee is great — it’s packed with antioxidants, low in calories, and can give your metabolism a little kick in the morning.

But if coffee isn’t your think, you can still enjoy a certain hot beverage that has amazing health benefits, which include boosting your metabolism and helping you burn fat.

This is the one anti-inflammatory tea you should have instead of coffee to speed up your metabolism, according to nutritionists.

Nutritionists are generally split on showing love for two types of tea: green and black tea.

While the benefits of green tea are widely known, and include boosting your metabolism, black tea is an antioxidant-rich alternative that should be on your radar.

Like green tea, black tea contains antioxidants called polyphenols that protect your cells against damaging free radicals. And though we already know that these polyphenols can be absorbed into the bloodstream when you drink green tea to alter the liver’s energy metabolism, one study confirms that the same could be true for black tea, according to Medical News Today.

The lead study author Susanne Henning, of the Center for Human Nutrition at the David Geffen School of Medicine, explains: "Our new findings suggest that black tea, through a specific mechanism through the gut microbiome, may also contribute to good health and weight loss in humans."

When researchers separated groups into those who would receive black tea, green tea, or no tea (and a low-fat, high-sugar diet), they found that, after four weeks, both groups that drank tea lost weight.

Another interesting revelation from the study: those who drank black and green tea experienced an increase in the good kind of gut bacteria that is present in those with leaner body masses. They even noticed a decrease in the gut bacteria  related to obesity.

All of this just goes to show: if you’re looking to substitute your cup of coffee with another metabolism-boosting hot beverage, it doesn’t get better than black tea (unless you choose green tea, of course).
