The Best Makeup Tips For Older Women That Can Naturally Give You A ‘Facelift’

As we age, many of us notice our features beginning to sag or tilt downward—a natural part of aging or something we may inherit genetically. But makeup, when applied with intention, has the incredible power to lift, reshape, and rejuvenate your face. Dominique Sachse, renowned beauty influencer, demonstrates how strategic placement of brows, eyeshadow, contour, and lipstick can transform downturned features into an uplifted, youthful look—essentially giving a “facelift” without any invasive procedures.
Sachse begins by dividing her face in half to show the difference between incorrect and correct techniques. “I’m going to do makeup the wrong way on one side, the right way on the other side,” she explains. “This is going from downturned to upturned. This is how you erase years from your face and get your happy back on. It is the beauty of makeup, in my opinion, it’s one of the things that I love so much about it.”
“The eyebrows are the window to our eyes,” Sachse says, showing how shaping them correctly can lift your entire eye area. On the “wrong” side, she demonstrates how overextending the outer brow downward can emphasize droopiness. On the “right” side, she flicks the tail of the brow slightly upward, creating a natural lift. Even subtle differences in brow height and angle can make your eyes appear brighter and more open.
Eye MakeupHeavy lids often make eyes look smaller and saggy. Sachse recommends darker, warmer shades in the crease and lighter shimmer on the brow bone for an instant lift. She stresses the importance of following the brow’s upward line: “The outer part of the makeup is going to follow that line and just sort of go up and out…Lot of blending, a lot of smoothing, but we are following this line, this framework that our eyebrows have created.” Mistakes like dragging shadow down or using dark eyeliner on the lower lash line only emphasize heaviness.
Contour & BlushContouring and blush placement are key to lifting the face. “Where you place it is everything in terms of how your cheeks and how your face will lift,” Sachse explains. On the “correct” side, she applies contour just under the cheekbones and slightly higher on the jawline to create an artificial lift, while blush is placed high and outward to enhance cheekbone height. On the “wrong” side, lower placement exaggerates sagging.
LipsFinally, the lips can accentuate age if not framed correctly. Sachse shows that a downturn in the corners of the mouth can be corrected by drawing a slightly new lip line underneath and outwards, paired with a subtle highlighter to soften boundaries. “Basically, the right placement and line create a lift,” she explains, “and it’s as if I went to a doctor’s office.”
