The One Product You Should Be Using Instead Of Foundation, According To A Makeup Artist

Foundation is a makeup product that almost everyone uses–and for good reason! It’s essential for creating even complexion that allows your other products to work better. But, certain foundation formulas can be too heavy on the skin and result in a cakey look. Or, it could be wrong for your skin type and take away from your natural texture. That’s why most people are gravitating away from foundation and using tinted moisturizers instead.

“Those who seek natural coverage should [use] a tinted moisturizer. This step evens out skin tone and provides a light coverage and sunscreen,” Nicole Moleti, who is a makeup artist for Laura Mercier Cosmetics, tells POPSUGAR. “If it is more coverage that you need, then a CC cream is the way to go. CC stands for ‘color correction,’ and these products are better suited for most skin types as they are dewy and hydrating and cover imperfections impeccably.”

The No-Makeup Makeup Trend

Tinted moisturizers are becoming increasingly more popular thanks to the no-makeup makeup trend that’s been taking over 2018. People aren’t looking to mask their skin under layers and layers of foundation. Instead, they want to enhance their natural glow by using barely-there products that provide the coverage they need without sacrificing their natural texture.

“Go for less makeup and more skin, rather than the over-contoured look,” celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta says, who suggests using a tinted moisturizer to get the desired no-makeup makeup look. “A healthy glow finish on [the] skin is in instead of matte caked or powdery finish.”
