The worst carb is white bread because it is a refined carb. That means it’s been processed and the whole nutrients have been stripped including fiber, B-complex vitamins, healthy oils and fat-soluble vitamins. Registered Dietitian, Manual Villacorta, says, “Your first line of defense is to opt for whole foods that are as close as possible to their original source.” Villacorta recommends choosing whole grains over refined carbs because refined carbs have no nutritional value. It might taste good but it won’t feel good as fat in your gut.

White flour, in general, is unhealthy but bagels are one of the worst carbs for you. “Depending on the size, I normally recommend a bagel to someone who is going on a two- to three-hour run afterward,” Villacorta says. The reason being the portion size. Deli bagels can have 250-300 calories and more than 50g of carbs each. If the bagel is made from refined flour, which your favorites probably are, it’s only setting you up to gain weight. All in all, stay away from refined carbs like white bread and especially bagels unless you want to put on a few extra pounds.
