The Vanity Fair Oscar Party is an highly-anticipated event where Hollywood’s finest showcase the latest high fashion and beauty trends–it was also where Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge revealed a best-kept A-list secret. Before walking the red carpet, the model shared a series of getting ready videos on her Instagram and shared her trick for hiding hair fall on the red carpet: Eyeshadow.

Yup, stars like Aldridge use eyeshadow to conceal their thinning hair and make their parts look fuller and thicker. It seems like such a silly idea, but it’s actually super effective hack! Here’s how to do it:

eyeshadow and angled eyeshadow brush side by side

What You'll Need

1. A Neutral Eyeshadow Palette that features a dark shade that matches your hair color

2. An Angled Eyeshadow Brush to add hair-like strokes to your part

Use an angled shadow brush to apply the eyeshadow shade that will complement your hair color, which will typically be a shade darker than your natural color. A darker shade is needed to create shadows to add the illusion of natural depth in the hair.

Apply the shadow where your natural part begins, then lift up thin sections of hair on either side of your part and apply to your head until the entire top is covered.

Run your fingers through your hair after the shadow is applied and shake to ensure that the powder is spread through your roots evenly and naturally.

Use a fine-tooth comb to blend the powder even more. Combing the hair will help give the powder a more gradual and natural blended effect.
