Fans of supermodel Christie Brinkley were elated when it was announced that she would be competitng in this season of Dancing with the Stars. Now, we’re learning that the 65-year-old won’t be able to participate in the star-studded ballroom dancing competition after all. Brinkley suffered an injury that is forcing her to sit on the sidelines.
“While rehearsing for the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show,” BBC Studios and ABC said in a statement to E! News.
The model took to Instagram to share the devastating news with her fans, keeping them in the loop on her injury and expressing her own disappointment in withdrawing from DWTS.
"I just broke my arm into a 1000 pieces requiring surgery with a metal plate and screws to hold my arm together..I'm so sorry! Only something like that could stop me from continuing to dance with my wonderful coach...I was having a blast," she wrote. "It was quite literally a crushing disappointment, I never ever want to let anyone down, so I looked for a silver lining and I think this one is solid gold!"
So, who will take her spot? Brinkley announced that her 21-year-old daughter, Sailor Lee Brinkley-Cook, will be joining the DWTS cast following her mom's unexpected injury. "Sailor Breezes In to Save the Day," Brinkley wrote. "And Sailor, Thank you for taking a very disappointing turn of events into something very special! you know Showbiz is all about getting a break and I guess you can say Sailor and I both got one on this season of @dancingabc."
The Dancing with the Stars team is already giving Sailor a big, warm welcome ahead of its 28th season premiere this week. "Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother's place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor," BBC Studios and ABC's statement continued.
