Costco shoppers complain about bacon quality
One user on the Costco subreddit recently voiced their dissatisfaction with Kirkland Signature Bacon. "The quality of the bacon has changed for the worst," they wrote. "In the last month, the flavor of the thick sliced bacon has changed and now has a gamey flavor. I've returned one batch bc it tasted so off." Yikes!
The sentiment was echoed by others, with one member expressing, "The last bacon I got about a month ago was stringy and awful." Another concurred, adding, "It’s been bad for awhile. Tastes almost chemically."
"Yes, and I no longer buy it. Along with most of the stuff I use to buy on a regular basis," remarked one disgruntled shopper.
Others have noticed a broader trend of diminishing quality not just in bacon but in other Kirkland products as well. "This has happened to a lot of Kirkland stuff and produce," one member noted. "I don’t get any produce or meat at all anymore." In fact, there are several Costco items that even superfans admit you're better off leaving out of your cart.
Some users pointed out that they had noticed this decline in quality over a year ago, indicating that this issue may have been ongoing for some time. "I noticed this over a year ago and thought it was me," confessed one user. "Stopped eating bacon and even beans made with bacon. Glad to know it wasn't just me getting old."
Some speculate that cost-cutting measures may be to blame, with one user suggesting, "They'll keep the prices low, but find lower quality substitutes to make that happen."
Many users noted that they're seeking alternative options, like H-E-B or Wright bacon, in search of better-quality alternatives. As the outcry on Reddit demonstrates, when it comes to bacon, many Costco members aren't willing to settle for anything less than the best.
