The Scary Downside To Never Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

Cleaning makeup brushes can be such a hassle, but it's definitely worth all of the work. Nothing beats having a fresh, clean makeup applicator, but sometimes we're running out of time or just don't feel like putting in the effort of cleaning our makeup brushes.

You're not doing any favors to your skin by using dirty makeup brushes. First off, you're clogging your pores with old, dirty makeup and oil from the last time you used your brushes. Using dirty brushes even once could lead to breakouts!
Another problem with using dirty makeup brushes is that it will actually make your makeup look bad. The main reason you're using a brush in the first place is to apply your makeup on more smoothly, so if it's coated in makeup it's not going to apply properly.

But, the worst thing that can happen with using dirty makeup brushes is all of the infections that could take place on your face! Using a dirty makeup brush can lead to staph infections or pink eye, according to Dr. Debbie Palmer. "Through daily use, makeup brushes can accumulate dead skin cells, dirt, oil, pollution, and bacteria," she said. "These includes staphylococcus, streptococcus, and e coli, fungus, and viruses."
