Say it with me: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It’s crucial to fill your mornings with healthy routines in order to keep yourself on track, which is why it’s so important to have a nutritious breakfast. Eggs are a popular breakfast food because they’re low in calories and high in vital proteins, vitamins, and nutrients, but that’s only the case when they’re prepared correctly.

Most people make this common mistake that basically strips all the nutritional value from the protein-packed staple, making them so unhealthy that they actually cause weight gain instead of preventing it. Dying to know if you’re guilty of this mistake? The answer is dipping them in ketchup!

Ketchup is a tasty condiment that pairs well with pretty much every food imaginable, particularly eggs. Unfortunately, most ketchup varieties are made with an alarming amount of sugar and other unhealthy ingredients and additives. "The problem with ketchup is that it's loaded with added sugars," explains New York-based nutritionist Regina Fazzini. "The key is to enjoy it in moderation and to be mindful of the serving sizes--most people ignore them and just pile on the ketchup and unwanted sugars."  

Most people turn to ketchup to make their eggs more palatable. Instead of reaching for the ketchup bottle, Fazzini recommends adding healthy vegetables and seasonings to your eggs to improve their flavor. "For me, I always start with spinach and peppers," she says. "But, the possibilities are truly endless!"
