Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi packed their bags and left the U.S. for Europe – the Cotswolds in the U.K. to be precise – at the end of 2024. And since Donald Trump‘s re-election, they reportedly plan to stay for good! (Or at least until he is out of the White House!)
There may still be a few things to iron out in terms of their living arrangements, with some recent reports claiming that they are looking for a new home in the Cotswolds due to clashing with their current neighbors over extension work being done on their property. However, it still seems like Ellen and Portia want to stay in the Cotswolds for the time being, largely because of the current political climate in the U.S.
Ellen DeGeneres Recalls How Things Played Out When She Found Out That Donald Trump Got Re-elected
The former Ellen DeGeneres Show host, whose cancellation may have also played a part in her wanting to relocate, touched on her new living situation in a new interview with English broadcaster Richard Bacon.
During a live conversation in Cheltenham on Sunday, July 20th, Bacon asked DeGeneres whether Trump's re-election had something to do with her wanting to leave the U.S., and she didn't hesitate to respond: "Yes." Can't get much more honest than that!
The Finding Dory actress, 67, told the audience how she and her wife, 52, arrived in the U.K. "the day before the election," and then recalled how things played out the following day. We "woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis," she remembered, adding: "And I was like, 'He got in.' And we're like, 'We're staying here.'"

Ellen And Portia 'Love It' In The UK
The comedian told Bacon how much she is loving life in the U.K. (despite the small hiccups with her neighbors) and couldn't help but praise its beauty, as well as the pace of life, the politeness of the people there, and more.
"It's absolutely beautiful. We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty," she gushed, adding: "The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life."
And the move brought with it some firsts too! "We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life," the For Your Approval star said. She added: "We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here."
