5 Foods Trainers Always Eat Because They Never Cause Weight Gain

Ever look at a professional fitness trainer and wonder what their secret is to staying in such great shape? Of course, they have a killer workout regime but aside from that, what is it that they eat to keep their lean physique looking so amazing?

Not only to athletic trainers know their way around the gym, but they also know the ins and outs of a healthy diet. Most have years of health and wellness experience that help them know exactly what foods their bodies need to look and feel their best.

We spoke exclusively with Liz Cook, Manhattan-based trainer and founder of LCFITNESSNY, to find out what healthy foods trainers always keep on deck to snack on while keeping their weight loss goals.

1. Apples

"When I'm on the run all day I just grab one and go. Sliced apples with a dollop of peanut butter is divine," the AFPA-certified trainer explains.

2. Strawberries

"I'm rarely without strawberries. Because they are so seasonal, I buy frozen ones and pop them in my freezer in the winter. I love making smoothies with fresh and frozen berries. In the summer I dust a little confectioner's sugar on them if I'm craving something extra sweet."

3. Cottage Cheese

"It's a versatile food; can be used for any meal and delicious for a snack," said Cook. "It's my quick breakfast go to. I also spread it on melba toast as a little snack after a strength work out. The protein feeds my muscles and you can add almost any seasoning to cottage cheese to spice it up!”

4. Cantaloupe

"I buy melons already cut up so there's no fuss. I add cantaloupe to cottage cheese and yogurt."

5. Almond Milk

"I steam it in the morning and add to my coffee. Delicious in smoothies, too.”
