Now that game season and football season are officially here, many people are beginning to crave all the fun and flavorful dips that often get served during games.

While these dips, like spinach and artichoke or buffalo chicken dip, are notorious for being high in calories and fat, making them a more indulgent choice, there are many ways to make swaps and make them a little more weight-loss-friendly. Another popular choice is seven-layer dip, which contains various flavorful ingredients, but can also be pretty hefty in calories. Luckily, a registered dietitian and viral weight loss content creator, Ilana Muhlstein, also known as Nurtition Babe, shared a recipe for her “high protein,” seven-layer dip that her followers say is “so easy and delicious.” Read more about how she makes it below.

Ilana Muhlstein Builds The Base For Her Seven-Layer Dip

In her recipe video, the dietitian decides to build an individual portion of her high-protein version of the popular dip so she can eat it for lunch, noting that it's a "quick" meal to build for those who are looking to switch up their daily lunches.

She starts by adding around two cups of shredded purple cabbage to a bowl before seasoning it with fresh lime juice and a pinch of salt. She massages the cabbage and leaves it at the bottom of her bowl for her first veggie-packed layer. Next, in place of sour cream, for added protein, she adds a large scoop of low-fat Greek yogurt and spreads it on top of her cabbage layer. Then, Ilana follows her yogurt with some flavorful salsa and diced red onion as her third and fourth layers.

Ilana Adds Her Final Layers To Her Dip

Once she has a solid high-veggie, protein-packed base, thanks to her cabbage and Greek yogurt, Ilana makes her dip even more satisfying by including a "fiber-filled carb," which is a healthy sprinkle of chickpeas she uses right out of a can. Next is arguably the most popular layer in a seven-layer dip, guacamole.

In her video, Ilana didn't have a fresh avocado, so she used a single serving of pre-packaged guacamole and spread it on top of her chickpea layer. Finally, she topped her bowl and completed the dip with a healthy drizzle of Sriracha hot sauce for some added heat and even more flavor. Out of tortilla chips, Ilana improvised and took some grain-free crunchy taco shells, crushed them up, then used them as makeshift chips to eat alongside her dip.

The dietitian's dip has a whopping 20 grams of protein per serving, making it a super filling and nutrient-dense dip for football season, or, like she said in her video, a great impromptu lunch.
