John Cena is dropping truth bombs about his World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE) career—and they’re somewhat unexpected.

According to a recent article published by Wrestling Inc., the 45-year-old professional wrestler “believes that he could have been more productive with everyone’s time, including his own.” In an episode of WWE Playback, a series where “WWE superstars rewatch and comment on their favorite matches throughout sports-entertainment history,” Cena sat down to take a look at his previous match against Kurt Angle which happened on June 27, 2002. In the video, he reflected on what things he could have done differently.

Wrestlign Inc. reports, “Cena criticized his own mannerisms during a backstage segment with the Undertaker, who shows him respect after a young Cena upset Kurt Angle in the ring. Cena wasn’t happy with how his demeanor came across but is content with how everything went down due to what he learned from it.”

In the video, the actor and former rapper said, “I guess looking back at it, I’m grateful for the moment. I’m grateful I debuted in such a historic arena with such an amazing performer [in Angle]. But I’m also grateful it didn’t go well cause it taught me, especially when ‘The Doctor of Thuganomics’ character was introduced, I was neither ruthless nor aggressive.”

He admitted, “I was quite submissive, and passive, and acted like a fan—and I was. That’s okay, but you can’t do that there. You have to stand out. You have to have a personality [which] somebody can attach to, and everybody would have done the exact same thing in my interaction with the Undertaker, whether they were a paying customer or backstage.”

Cena added, “Everybody would have done the same thing. So [how] does that make me different than anybody else? That stuff is nice, but it didn’t help at all.”

Quoting WWE‘s tweet, Cena mentioned, “Be realistic with yourself whenever you’re reflecting on the past. We can often make moments different in our mind than they actually were. Look for the takeaways. Look for the lessons. Look for the growth thru an honest lens. Never give up.”

June 27 officially marks the comeback date of John Cena on WWE Raw. Surprisingly, it is also the exact same date he appeared on WWE Smackdown and fought against Kurt Angle.
