Katie Couric just revealed that she has absolutely “no relationship” with former Today co-host, Matt Lauer, after he was fired from the show four years ago following sexual misconduct allegations. Couric and Lauer co-hosted Today together for 15 years before she left in 2006. Lauer was fired in November 2017 following the scandal, whereby a female colleague came forward and accused him of “inappropriate sexual behavior” in the workplace while covering the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, three years prior.

The 64-year-old journalist didn’t hold back during an appearance on Today on Tuesday, October 19th, telling everyone that she and her 63-year-old former co-host “have no relationship” right now, before branding the sexual harassment allegations against him as “disturbing” and “disgusting.” The former 60 Minutes correspondent told Today that the scandal was “really, really hard and it took me a long time to process what was going on.”

"The side of Matt I knew was the side of Matt I think you all knew. He was kind, generous, considerate, a good colleague," Couric continued. "As I got more information and learned more about what was going on behind the scenes. And then I did some of my own reporting, talked to people, tried to excavate what had been going on. It was really devastating and also disgusting. I think what I realized is that there was a side of Matt I never really knew, and I tried to understand why he behaved the way he did, and why he was so reckless and callous, and honestly abusive to other women."

We think these comments are only the tip of the iceberg, as Couric discusses Lauer in her upcoming memoir, Going There, which is due to be released on October 26th.The book reportedly features text messages between her and Lauer when he was fired from the show. She explained: "I think I used those because I thought they were very illustrative of how our relationship devolved and ultimately deteriorated. I thought that was a powerful way to really let the reader into my thought process and as I got more and more information, how it was harder and harder for me to reconcile these two sides of him." We don't have long to wait to find out what else she has to say about her former co-host!
