Back in 2020, Katy Perry and her then-fiancé, Orlando Bloom, bought a home in Montecito, California from an elderly veteran named Carl Westcott. However, after the sale went through, Westcott attempted to cancel the transaction, claiming he was “mentally incapacitated” at the time. After duking it out in court, the judge ruled in Perry’s favor, and now Mr. Westcott has been ordered to pay the singer $1.8M in damages. Keep reading for more information.

Katy Perry Wins Legal Battle

The house in question boasts eight bedrooms, an outdoor pool, and a tennis court, all within a sought-after neighborhood known for its privacy. Westcott's son, Chart, previously spoke out against the "Wide Awake" singer, saying: "She has no sense of fair play, no empathy, zero empathy, quite the opposite." He also accused the famous couple of "treating ordinary people like dirt," saying the way they've conducted their affairs is "unforgivable."

Katy Perry originally asked for $5M in damages, claiming she lost valuable time she could've been renting the house out. Last week, a California judge rules that Mr. Westcott owes Ms. Perry a total of $1,842,142.84.

Social Media Reactions

Across social media, fans are furious with the singer, calling her out for being "heartless" and "lacking human decency."

"Orlando dodged a bullet," one person wrote.

"That poor elderly gentleman," another user commented, and the next added, "Very sickening."

"Katy you should be ashamed of yourself," another person wrote.

"She's a typical California heartless celebrity," shared one person.

"Just because she's within her rights to sue doesn't mean she couldn't make another choice," a final fan said. "She's not even planning on living there."
