Kim Kardashian Is Getting Hate For Her “Offensive” Halloween Costume

October 30, 2017 by Samantha Peters

Over the weekend, Kim Kardashian celebrated Halloween by paying hommage to a variety of music legends. While her many getups were predictably #extra, one of her costumes has captured attention for not going over so well with fans.

Kim caused quite a stir when she dressed up as beloved R&B singer Aaliyah. The 37-year-old emulated the singer's 2001 “Try Again" look wearing a bejeweled choker, sparkly bra and black pants. Sharing her look to Twitter, she wrote “Baby Girl Aaliyah.”

Shortly after the post went live, fans were quick to point out their issues with the costume.

“Legend or not Aaliyah is a black woman and you’re not. It’s offensive and you shouldn’t push this limit, but ok…,” one person commented.

"It's offensive because babygirl is DEAD & you can't pay hommage when you're an Armenian just using her look as a costume. That's the issue" another wrote.

This isn't the first time Kim has come under fire for cultural appropriation. Over the summer, she was accused of using black face in promotional photos for her Kim Kardashian West beauty line. She also faced backlash for supporting makeup artist Jeffree Star's racist comments back in August.

The controversy over the costume nearly eclipsed fanfare for her Madonna and Cher looks. Still, some fans didn't find the Aaliyah costume problematic.

"Kimberly Kardashian West looks great dressed as Aaliyah. THAT is how you pay respect without doing Blackface. Great job @KimKardashian!" said one user

“Someone explain to me what’s wrong with Kim Kardashian dressing as Aaliyah…. she looks great,” another added.

What do you think of Kim's contentious costume?
