David Beckham and his wife, Victoria Beckham, are up for a major upgrade in British society, with King Charles recently confirming that David is going to be knighted. And while the soccer star is certainly a figurehead in England, King Charles might have another reason for bestowing this honor: the Beckhams have been distancing themselves from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Keep reading for more information.

King Charles Knights David Beckham

Earlier this week, King Charles confirmed that David Beckham would soon be "Sir David Beckham" and his wife, Victoria Beckham will become "Lady Victoria Beckham." This announcement comes as part of Charles' birthday honors to recognize David's  iconic sporting career and lasting contributions to British society.

Widely celebrated as one of the best soccer players of all time, with a career spanning 21 years. He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2008, and the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2021.

This isn't Beckham's first honor from the royal family. In 2003, he was appointed an Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth and asked to be an ambassador for the King's Foundation in 2024.

Beckhams vs. Sussex's

Many people are wondering if the Beckhams are now receiving this honor because they're no longer close with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The couples were once close friends, but over the course of the past few years, their rift has been heading more and more towards chasm-territory.

Not long after becoming friends, the former royals accused the Beckhams of leaking personal information about them to the press, which promptly infuriated the Beckhams. Plus, now that Meghan falls further and further out of favor with the Hollywood elite, jealousy has crept its way between the couple.

Is this friendship-breakup part of the reason the Beckhams are now officially "Sir" and "Lady?"
