Every new year brings with it an exciting array of new trends. We’ve been patiently waiting for 2018’s hottest makeup and beauty trends to reveal themselves, studying the runways at Fashion Week and reviewing the glam routines of the industry’s biggest celebrities and influencers. And now, it’s clear that 2018 makeup is all about embracing your natural self.
“We will be seeing a lot less caked on foundation and more focus on embracing your natural features. I personally love seeing someone’s freckles shine through their makeup! To this effect, I think we’re going to be seeing the heavy highlight start to disappear,” celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta tells StyleCaster.
With this new shift in the beauty world, it looks some makeup trends are getting left behind. Here are the 2 makeup trends that no one will be wearing in 2018:
OUT: Matte Lips
Matte lipstick is getting tossed to the curb this year. The trendy lip formula used to be all the rage, but now we're seeing a shift away from the dried out look in 2018.
IN: Glossy Lips
Instead, beauty mavens are opting for glossy lips. Makeup artists like Ta love that lip gloss is coming back in style because it adds a "youthful radiance" to the face, and it perfectly compliments the natural skin trend.
Here are some of our favorite glosses:
MAC Cosmetics Lipglass ($17)
This lip gloss is available in 36 amazing shades and offers a high-gloss, glass-like finish.
This long-lasting balm keeps the lips hydrated and nourished all day to prevent any drying or chapping. It's formulated with antioxidants and natural emollients that repair the skin--and if you choose the Rose Balm Dotcom, you'll add a gorgeous sheer, pink tint to your pout.
This universally-flattering gloss delivers an "explosive" shine that also nourishes the lips with conditioning shea butter formula. Its nude rose shade will make your lips look instantly fuller and smoother.
OUT: Over Contouring
Contouring used to rule the runways and red carpets. But now, over shadowing and highlighting the face is a big no-no. Now, everyone's following the "Less Is More" trend when it comes to their glam.
IN: Natural, Dewy Skin
"Go for less makeup and more skin, rather than the over-contoured look," Ta suggests. "A healthy glow finish on skin is in instead of matte caked or powdery finish."
Here are some of our favorite products that will help you get glowing:
This primer adds an instant glow with its satin-smooth formula. Not only does it illuminate the skin, but it also keeps it hydrated with hyaluronic acid, which helps plump, perfect and enhance the complexion.
All you need is one drop of this illuminating product to get a natural glow like Zendaya. You can apply it to your skin by itself as a highlighter, or mix it with your favorite moisturizer, primer or foundation to customize your glow.
This gel moisturizer hydrates and brightens the skin while visibly balances oils to reveal a glowing, refreshed complexion. Makeup artists used this product at the Altuzarra show at Paris Fashion Week to maintain the models' natural shine.
