McDonald’s may be one of the most popular fast-food chains in the country, but their recent price hikes on popular items have many customers fuming and ready to boycott.
A recent viral Reddit post from a McDonald’s customer who noticed the price of a McDouble sandwich had gone up 25% at his location has other internet users sharing their frustrations with the famous brand, as the entire menu has seemingly gotten more expensive but the quality of the food has not changed nor improved. It has fast-food customers across America wondering if it’s time to pick a new go-to spot for a quick burger. Read more about the McDonald’s controversy below.
A Post About McDonald's Price Increases Goes Viral Online
As inflation and other economic difficulties have shaken the lives of people and businesses in America, numerous companies and fast-food chains have had to increase their prices. One of the most talked-about price increases in the fast-food industry regards the McDonald's menu, as recent reports showed that the average cost of their items has increased by 40% since 2019. More customers began paying attention to the rising cost of menu items even more after they got rid of their famous Dollar Menu in 2013.
Classic food items on the McDonald's menu, like their Chicken McNuggets, the McDouble, and more, have all seen an increase in price over the years, which is a heavy hit for those who rely on the establishment for a quick, cheap, and accessible meal. Four months ago, a Reddit user, who is also a graduate student, made a viral post regarding the McDouble sandwich and how he was disappointed to see that he was being asked to pay a significant amount more money for two of the sandwiches than he was at the end of last year.
"After a long day of homework, I was in the mood for some McDonald's, [and] went to order my usually cheap meal on the app," wrote the Reddit user, who wanted to order two McDoubles, fries, and a Sprite.
"Just the two McDoubles alone would have cost almost five dollars," he continued.
"Even with coupons and deals, the total amount would have been $7.67. I did not, nor will I be ordering from a [McDonald's] now. Just a few weeks ago, on New Year's Eve, two McDoubles were $3.99."
The user finished his post by writing that he would stop ordering from the famous 'Golden Arches' and continue to eat "ramen" as a cheap alternative.

Internet Users Express Their Frustration In Rising McDonald's Menu Prices
The post from the graduate student gained some traction online, as other former McDonald's lovers shared their opinion on the rising menu prices from an establishment that prided itself on being able to serve its customers an accessible, affordable meal.
"I cannot bring myself to spend more than $10 on a fast food meal, so I never buy it anymore," commented a Reddit user. "The only time I go is when I have a free reward."
"Yeah, and [the] quality reduced," added another user.
"It's a sham now."
"I used to get fast food at least once a week...and the prices are just significantly higher now," commented another Reddit member. "I've basically cut it entirely out."
"I avoid fast food," wrote a user. "With current prices, I'd rather get better food from a sit-down restaurant for not much more money."
While McDonald's continues to reign as one of the most well-loved fast-food establishments in the country, likely given their numerous locations and longtime reputation, it's no secret that their customers miss the 'good old days,' when you could walk in and eat a cheeseburger for just one dollar.
