The golden arches of McDonald’s once stood as a beacon of affordable dining, but it seems those days are long gone.

The inflation (or “shrinkflation“) of fast food is a common topic of complaint from consumers these days.  Now even the prices at McDonald’s are skyrocketing, as TikTok user @shannon_montipaya pointed out in a video on March 27. The video revealed a $27 McNugget “deal” that left customers reeling. Find all of the details below.

Customers shocked by $27 McNugget deal

Even the mighty McDonald’s is facing the heat of fast food inflation. A recent TikTok video by user @shannon_montipaya unveiled a jaw-dropping price tag attached to a seemingly simple meal deal.

The video captured the menu board of a Southern California McDonald’s, revealing a staggering $25.39 price tag for a 40-piece chicken nugget meal. With taxes factored in, the grand total catapults to a mind-boggling $27. And what’s included in this hefty price? Two large fries, sans even a modest beverage to wash it all down.

“You couldn’t even throw in the Sprite? You couldn’t even throw in, like, a medium Sprite in there? Holy crap,” Shannon said in the video.

People expressed similar disbelief in the comments, with some pointing out that prices vary by location. "The 40 piece of nuggets is $13 at my McDonald’s. That’s insane!" one wrote.

Another user chimed in, suggesting that the exorbitant prices must be a California phenomenon, stating, "Must be California. I was shocked at the price change from Vegas to Cali."

While the shock may leave some McDonald’s loyalists reeling, it also serves as a reminder of the broader economic landscape and the ripple effects of inflation on everyday consumer goods. The days of scoring a budget-friendly meal at the drive-thru seem like a distant memory—and recent data shows that McDonald's is one of the worst culprits, as prices have nearly doubled since 2014.

It may just be best to make your nuggets at home.
