We all know the royal family has its fair share of weird rules to follow when it comes to etiquette and how to dress. From Kate Middleton never being able to take off her coat in public, to never being able to wear black, it’s safe to say marrying into the royal family comes with a strict dress code.
You may have noticed that the royal women always have on stockings when wearing dresses and skirts and that hemlines never dare go above the knee–that all seems pretty normal, right? Well, the royal protocol also bans a seemingly harmless item: wedges.
According to a source for Vanity Fair, wedges are strongly disliked by Her Majesty the Queen. Apparently, the Queen does not enjoy the clumsy and more sensible footwear option. Interesting, to say the least.
“The Queen isn’t a fan of wedged shoes. She really doesn’t like them and it’s well known among the women in the family,” said the source.
Looking back at all of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s fashion moments, it appears that once you become a member of the royal family, you have to get rid of the shoe style all together. Now, Kate Middleton’s endless public appearances in classic pumps make so much more sense!
So, while the strict ban against wedges isn’t an official rule, you wouldn’t dare wear a pair of shoes knowing it would upset the Queen herself, would you? Yeah, we didn’t think so. The royal women can choose to wear wedges on their own time, but the ensemble would not be well received in the Queen’s presence. Duly noted.
