Meghan Markle made it very clear that she wouldn’t be joining Prince Harry in the U.K. to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8th. And she was true to her word, as there was no sign of her at yesterday’s event.

The former Suits actress has, however, been very willing to travel to Nigeria after receiving an official invite, which has understandably caused a lot of backlash. She will reportedly fly to the country from Los Angeles, while her husband will fly there from London.

The Palace Was Reportedly Relieved Meghan Markle Didn't Want To Come To The UK

Daily Mail columnist Richard Eden was one of the many people who spoke out about Meghan's reluctance to visit the U.K., telling Palace Confidential: "She does not want to return to Britain in a hurry. There are many people here who won't be sad about that. Meghan will be wary of getting booed at St. Paul's."

This was echoed by insiders at Kensington Palace, who according to The Mirror, let out a "huge sigh of relief" when they heard that Meghan would be staying in California.

Eden's booing comment is most likely in reference to the mom-of-two getting booed while attending a Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral during the Platinum Jubilee back in 2022.

According to The Mirror, royal expert Jack Royston claimed Meghan is hoping that the Nigeria trip will be a "good PR" opportunity for the couple, while visiting the U.K. could mean that she gets "booed" by royalists who "don't really like her very much."

Meghan's Absence 'Speaks Volumes'

It's no secret that the American Riviera Orchard founder doesn't want to visit the U.K. any time soon, with another source telling The Express that she is "done" with the U.K. and "doesn't want the drama" associated with the royal family.

Although Buckingham Palace hasn't issued an official statement about Prince Harry's U.K. trip, everyone is reportedly aware of what is happening; and the fact that Meghan hasn't flown in to support father-in-law King Charles or sister-in-law Kate Middleton, who are both going through their own cancer battles, speaks volumes.

According to The Express, a senior palace aide said: "Her conspicuous absence from all his recent trips has been noted. This time she will be missing a key event in Harry's Invictus diary as well as the opportunity to offer support to her father-in-law."

"It strikes me as odd that she doesn't have time to come to England where, however she feels about them, she does have family. But she does have time to join Harry in Africa. I think that speaks volumes," the aide added.
