Michelle Obama may have caused a stir when she claimed that America wasn’t “ready” to have her – or any other woman – become president in a recent interview… but it was nothing compared to some even more recent comments, which have been slammed as “tone deaf” and “out of touch” among other things.
The former First Lady made the comments while talking to Jamie Kern Lima on her podcast about her style when she was in the White House between 2009 and 2017 while promoting her new style book, The Look. So what exactly did she say that has riled the internet so much?
Michelle Obama Makes Controversial Comments About Her Glam Squad Being A 'Necessity' When She Was First Lady
On Jamie Kern Lima's podcast – yes, the same one that Meghan Markle is still being trolled about! – the Becoming author revealed that she had three full-time staffers for hair, makeup, and wardrobe during her time in the White House. And she tried to justify it by saying it wasn't a luxury, but in fact a "necessity."
"I know having a glam team – a trifecta – it feels like a luxury, but it was a time necessity. There's absolutely no way that I would be able to do my hair and makeup and have clothes ready that fit because rare is the woman who can live off the rack," she declared on the podcast.
This comment about her glam squad has understandably been viewed as tone deaf and out of touch, with many people referencing the current economic climate and calling her "ungrateful" and more.

Social Media Reactions
"So tone deaf and out of touch with reality," slammed one disgruntled person on X. "She's so out of touch she can't understand that 99% of women not only live off the rack, but don't even know what the hell she's talking about," echoed a second.
"Name another first lady who has ever done this much trash talk about the honor of serving in such an office… unbelievable," concurred a third, this time on a YouTube video of Megyn Kelly reacting to Obama's comments. "She was given a privileged opportunity to serve the largest free country in the world! And she's complaining? She is ungrateful," agreed a fourth.
"Does anyone have a tiny violin?" asked a fifth. A sixth called the former FLOTUS a "perpetual victim," as a seventh said: "An ungrateful spoiled and very depressed person. She needs professional help." "Oh boohoo. You've done exceptionally financially well out of all that hell, you poor thing," added an eighth, followed by the eye rolling emoji.
"Blah blah blah blah poor me poor me go away Michelle," a ninth chimed in, while a tenth exclaimed: "So tired of her constant whining. Just stop! Be grateful for all you have. There are so many others who go without!"
