Former First Lady Michelle Obama is one influental female powerhouse and force to be reckoned with, especially in terms of healthy living. From setting higher standards for healthy food in schools nationwide to initiating the Let's Move! campaign, Obama accomplished a lot during her husband's presidency. Plus, she has amazing style. With such a focus on health, it makes sense that former First Lady has a killer bod. So what's her secret to staying fit?
As part of the Let's Move! campaign, Michelle posted a video of her workout regimen. The video also promotes her #GimmeFive challenge, through which participants think of five ways to improve their health and share them on social media using the hashtag. This came as a response to a challenge from her husband, former POTUS Barack Obama, in 2015 to celebrate the five year anniversary of the campaign. He listed his own #GimmeFive tips, so Michelle took this as an opportunity to one-up him. And she definitely did.
Let's just say that Michelle Obama's top five workout moves don't favor slackers. First, she warms up by jump roping. Her trainer, Cornell McClellan, explains that it's best to avoid jumping too high. If you're not already worn out after this warm up, the next phase involves a series of exercises with a medicine ball. McClellan says it's important to add variety to your workouts, so Michelle mixes up her ab exercises using the medicine ball.
Brace yourselves for the next steps. Michelle kicks things up even further with an in-and-out squat using a bench. She jumps onto a bench, lands in a perfect squat, and then repeats. Tired yet? Hang in there for the last two phases: weight lifting and boxing.
If Michelle Obama had time to help her husband run the country and get a good workout in, then you have zero excuses to avoid the gym. Her workout regimen may seem too intense for some, but you can still come up with your own #GimmeFive hacks for a healthier lifestyle, just in time for summer.
