The key to losing weight lies in your diet and fitness routine. This is especially the case for those trying to lose fat. “It’s important to remember that fat loss starts when you burn more than you’re consuming,” explains New York-based nutritionist Regina Fazzini.

In addition to finetuning your daily calorie consumption and exercising regularly, experts say that taking an anti-inflammatory vitamin can also help kickstart your fat loss efforts. “Studies have linked stubborn fat with high levels of chronic inflammation in the body,” Fazzini tells SheFinds. “Talk with your doctor to see if a daily anti-inflammatory vitamin or supplement could be beneficial for you.”

Fazzini says that taking fish oil supplements are a great anti-inflammatory vitamin to add to your fat loss routine is vitamin D. Here’s everything you need to know:

Studies show that vitamin D has a profound anti-inflammatory response on the cells, making it an excellent daily supplement to add to your current weight loss plan. There's even research that proves that it can lessen the ongoing pain from inflammation, too!

When it comes to those with belly fat, researchers say that there is a correlation between obesity and vitamin D levels. Men's Health notes that research has found that people with "adequate vitamin D levels" are more likely tended to lose more weight than those with low levels.

"Vitamin D deficiency is one of the most commonly unrecognized medical conditions," says Michael F. Holick, M.D., Ph.D., a professor of medicine at Boston University medical center and author of The Vitamin D Solution. "And that deficiency negatively affects every cell in your body—including your fat cells."

But before you stock up on vitamin D supplements, it's important to stress that taking too much of anything is never a good idea. In fact, too much vitamin D can upset the calcium balance in your body, which can affect how certain heart and blood pressure medicines work.

Remember: Check with your doctor before taking the supplement!

In addition to taking a vitamin D supplement, Fazzini says you can get your daily dose of vitamins by making tiny tweaks to your diet as well. Popular vitamin D-rich foods include fatty fish, liver, beef, and egg yolks.
