You can’t out exercise a bad diet, meaning eating healthy, well-balanced meals is crucial for melting away excess belly fat! Nutrient-rich foods help promote a faster metabolism, meaning you burn more calories. By eliminating foods that don’t have any nutritional value like processed foods, your body will run better than ever before, helping you finally hit your weight loss goals.

But remember, if there’s one food group that’s wrongfully blamed for weight gain, it’s carbs. Good carbs are still needed to maintain a balanced diet, you just have to be smart about the ones you choose. In fact, certain healthy carbs can actually help you melt away fat faster. Enter quinoa!

We spoke with New York-based nutritionist Regina Fazzini to learn about the many benefits that this superfood has.

"Quinoa is high in protein and is one of the few foods that has all nine essential amino acids," Fazzini told SheFinds. "It's also loaded with healthy antioxidants, nutrients, and minerals that help keep you healthy. Plus, it's high in fiber, which means it will help you stay fuller longer and help eliminate any unhealthy cravings later."

Not sure how to start incorporating this food into your diet? Fazzini is a big fan of using quinoa as a pasta alternative. Try adding it as a side to your favorite meals that you would normally pair with starchy pasta to make them healthier and better for your weight loss regimen.

"Add a serving where you were originally adding pasta or another unhealthy carb," she explains. "It's better for you and if you season it properly, you won't be able to tell the difference. I also love adding it to my salads and using it in place of regular oats for my morning oatmeal."
