When picking out your meals, it can often be hard to choose between a healthy option and a tasty option. While it is true that many healthy foods are also delicious foods, there are still a lot of foods we crave that we know are bad for us.

It is okay to treat ourselves to unhealthy foods every once in a while, we should never get into the habit of eating unhealthy dinners regularly. And there is one dinner food that everyone should try to avoid, according to health experts: pasta.

This is no surprise – we all know that pasta is bad for us, especially if you have it for dinner frequently.

Pasta is high in carbs, which can make it harder for you to lose weight and can even slow your metabolism and make you crave more snacks.

And many of us tend to make pasta multiple times a week, since it is such an easy dinner to prepare. But just because it is simple to make, doesn't make pasta a good choice in meal.

Pasta is a refined carb, meaning it is low in fiber yet high in carbs. This is because the wheat kernel used to make the pasta has bee stripped of the germ that contains most of the nutrients.

This can be a huge problem to people trying to lose weight, because eating this type of refined carb loads up your calorie intake without providing any nutritional benefits.

Instead of making pasta for dinner, try finding a different grain as an alternative. Brown or wild rice can be a nutritious option, plus it's easy to make.

For even more fiber and some protein, consider buying ancient grains. Farro, freekeh, millet and barley are all healthy options.

Or, if you really can't give up pasta entirely, try limiting your pasta dishes to just once every two weeks. And pay closer attention to which type of pasta you buy.

Look for whole wheat pasta, which typically contains high amounts of fiber and can help curb appetite. Or, shop for chickpea pasta, which is made with beans in place of wheat.
