A Bombshell Article Exposes Selena Gomez & Her Mom's Mental Health Company With New Claims
In 2022, the "Lose You To Love Me" singer and her mom, whom she's referenced and created content with throughout her career, began a mental health start-up company, Wondermind, which was inspired by their years of working on their own mental health and self-care journies. Mandy was the brand's CEO, while Selena was their Chief Impact Officer, and an entrepreneur named Daniella Pierson was a co-CEO.
According to a new article released by The Cut, Wondermind was intended to be a mental health-related entertainment company, which was supposed to create helpful content via websites, podcasts, TV shows, and films, hoping to "destigmatize" mental health issues and support those who struggle with them.
However, after speaking to 14 former employees from the company, which has not produced much since its beginning, the author of The Cut article exposed its issues, citing that Mandy's "erratic behavior" and dire financial situation were slowly causing it to "fall apart." In the story, one employee claimed the singer's mother was "unable to deliver anything," and that at specific points, staffers were not paid on time, and Selena would allegedly have to put her personal funds towards the company.
"According to dozens of conversations, the company's grand mission and basic operations were tanked by Gomez's and Teefey's personal and family dysfunction, including the denial of Teefey's instability," wrote Angelina Chapin for The Cut.
The Internet Reacts To The New Article And Defends Selena On Social Media
The article was overall a shock to numerous internet users, especially fans of the Disney Channel alum, who have been watching her and her mother's relationship evolve over the years. Given the overall grim tone of the story, containing many shocking claims that Mandy has since denied or clarified, fans felt a lot of sympathy towards Selena and her family. On social media platforms like Reddit, they noted how "sad" the situation was and showed support for her.
"This is sad," wrote a fan. "I hate that the staffers seem to blame her for not doing more to help her mother. It's not that simple when it comes to a parent."
"I am utterly shocked," added another, as one user wrote, "What a mess."
"Mandy and Selena shouldn't have ever gone into business together in the first place," they continued. "That is just always going to be a strained and messy power dynamic."
While her mom spoke up for the article and accused her former employees of telling "lies," Selena has yet to make a statement regarding the piece, and we're unsure if she ever will. At the end of the day, it looks like many of her friends still have her back.
