As we inch closer to summer, many of us might feel it’s time for a refresh when it comes to our tresses. One easy, manageable and effortlessly chic cut that Hollywood and runway style icons always opt for around this time of year is a chin-length bob. Case in point: Jessica Biel just went for the chop this week.

The “bubble” bob is currently gaining popularity on BeautyTok and beyond with its symmetry-promoting center part and bouncy ends.

For those with naturally fine or thinner hair, finding a bob haircut that adds fullness can feel like a challenge. However, many hairstylists and experts recommend the currently trending bubble bob as a solution for flatness, and it’s especially great for beating the impending heat.

We caught up with professional stylists and experts to learn more about the buzzing ‘do, and how to recreate the celeb-fave look for yourself.

What Makes The Bubble Bob Flattering For Fine Hair?

As seen on Bella Hadid above, the bubble bob features a middle part and chin-length ends that face inwards. Paul Labrecque, creative director, master stylist and colorist at Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa, tells us that this is a "rounder bob shape that has internal long ball-shaped layers that give a more circular" look. Strategic layering when it comes to bobs, he notes, can help make "fine hair look fuller."

Like a classic French bob, this cut can be the "perfect option when your hair is longer and you'd like to cut it into a new style so that your hair appears thicker," Ghanima Abdullah, hair expert and cosmetologist at The Right Hairstyles says. She notes that the bubble bob "has more volume on the outside and curls forward towards the face."

How To Ask Your Stylist For A Bouncy Bubble Bob

Before heading to the salon, Abdullah recommends planning to ask your stylist for subtle, hidden layers that can make fine hair look thicker. "You can't really see them but this cut has subtle layers that help produce the volume on the outside of the cut," Abdullah says. "So if your stylist isn't familiar with the trend, you can ask for a chin length bob that poofs out or tell them you would like few layers added to create volume on the outside," she adds.

For your hair to appear voluminous and flattering overall with a shorter cut (as seen here on Elsa Hosk), it's essential to consider your "natural hair texture and face shape," Labrecque stresses.

Abdullah also points out that asking for a similar, more Parisian-inspired bob can help hide "really thin" areas or "bald spots." She notes that when the ends of your bob are "shorter, the volume will be higher up, instead of at cheek level." This, she says, can "make your hair appear thicker at the roots, or at least make bald spots less apparent."

Additional Styling Tips For Maintaining Volume

If you're heading home after getting the big chop and looking for ways to maintain volume like Ciara, Labrecque says that a "volumizer and dry shampoo" will become your best friends when applied to your roots.

Abdullah concurs and notes that "you can tease your hair a little at the roots to disguise thinning areas." She also recommends opting for a hair thickener, or a "hair filler keratin hair fiber powder," such as the Toppik Hair Filler (currently on sale for $23.70 via Amazon) to fill in any areas near the scalp if you wish to.

The Bottom Line

The bubble bob is seemingly everywhere right now, gracing the pages of Pinterest, TikTok, and even the red carpet. More stars like Zendaya, Paris Hilton and Hailey Bieber have all given many of us major hair goals after being been spotted sporting the trendy and exquisite bob this year.

Not only is it timelessly chic, but stylists explained that it can also benefit finer or thinner hair types, as well as anyone needing an instant change in time for summer.

Gina Rivera, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Phenix Salon Suites tells SheFinds that it's best to "consult with your stylist on a maintenance schedule." For those trying to regain hair health, she concludes that it's essential to "make sure to trim your bob every 4-6 weeks."

If you're looking for even more chin-length bob inspo, we've also recently rounded up five additional types, including the Italian bob, asymmetrical bob, 'bixie,' and more.
