Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been the it-couple for nearly two years now, but before Travis—and between a few of her other relationships, if fan theories are to be believed—there was Matty Healy. And while Taylor has certainly moved on from their situationship, the jury is still out on Matty after his latest rant on stage at Glastonbury, when he pretty obviously shaded Taylor. Keep reading for more information.

Matty Healy Shades Taylor Swift

According to fan theories, Swift and Healy have had an on-again-off-again relationship for over a decade. Many fans have noticed common phrases in their work over the years, Taylor in her multiple albums and Matty with his band, The 1975. However, thing started to heat up after Taylor and her boyfriend of over six years, Joe Alwyn, broke up.

In January 2023, Taylor made a surprise appearance at a 1975 concert in London, and later, in April, she and Matty were seen together multiple times in New York and Nashville—Matty even attended the Eras Tour, and was seen mouthing "I love you" to her while she was performing. But their romance was short lived: they split officially in June 2023.

We didn't hear too much about their relationship for a while, but then Taylor dropped her album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April 2024, which was not only full of songs that fans are convinced are about Matty, but even the title itself was a subtle dig.

Backing up to 2022, Matty revealed in an interview with Elle that he was in a group chat called "The Tortured Man Club" with Joe Alwyn and Paul Mescal, and that he used the phrase to describe himself and other male artists who are particularly "brooding" and "complicated."

Fast forward to 2024, Taylor pronounces herself the Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department, and released a 31-track album. Fans think at least 8-10 songs, maybe more, are about Healy himself—obviously the title track, which mentions a man with a typewriter, cigarettes, and drugstore magazines, which all scream Matty Healy.

Other songs fans are convinced reference her tumultuous relationship with Healy over the years: "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)," "Fresh Out the Slammer," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."

It seems like Healy was feeling the heat, though, and while he's done an okay job keeping his feelings to himself over the past year, his recent performance at Glastonbury included a (drunken?) rant that fans couldn't help but feel like was shade directed at Taylor.

"I'm probably the best songwriter of my generation," he said, lifting a pint of beer. "A poet, ladies and gentleman, is what I am. Generational wordsmith...these lyrics, this poetry...I bleed for you."

Fans immediately caught onto the "poet" language, a word he and Taylor seemingly have been throwing back and forth at one another. To make matters worse, he was wearing a Peter Pan pin, which fans tied to another TTPD track, "Peter," a song about a broken promise between a man and a woman due to immaturity, which lines up well with Peter Pan being a symbol for emotional immaturity.

Taylor & Travis Unbothered On Date Night

While Matty is seemingly in the weeds working through his unresolved feelings towards the "Cruel Summer" singer, Taylor enjoyed a carefree date night with her boyfriend of nearly two years, Travis Kelce. The pair stepped out in Manhattan last week, dressed to the nines on their way to dinner. Taylor wore a leggy mini dress, Christian Louboutin heels, and a chic Aspinal of London "Trunk" bag.

Travis wore a floral short-sleeved button-up shirt with black trousers, white socks, and black leather loafers, topping the look off with a pair of black sunglasses and slicked-back hair. The happy couple looked the part, and many fans can't help but feel like there may be a ring in the very near future.
