One thing you should watch out for when picking a foundation is its texture.
Malin Coleman, makeup artist for Max Factor, told Good Housekeeping that heavy foundation is one common mistake that makes clients look older. She explained, "People think that because they’re older, they need to go for a heavier foundation to disguise their lines, but actually it makes them look more prominent, as the foundation pools in the wrinkles."
With that in mind, sticking to lighter coverage foundation can keep your look from getting too severe--plus, you can always build more coverage on problem areas.
Jamie Coombes, a makeup artist for Dior, also spoke to Good Housekeeping about common foundation mistakes. According to him, you should also be wary of finishing powders.
Jamie explains, "As we get older, heavier finishing powders can look overdone, accentuate pores, flatten the complexion and generally age us."
Instead, he suggests using an HD powder, which "will reduce shine, but keep the youthful radiance."
It's also important to stay away from foundations that contain alcohol. According to Byrdie, "Alcohols are often used in products like foundation and concealer to facilitate other ingredients' ability to sink into the skin, but they can be extremely drying and irritating."
Dry skin and foundation do not work well together, which can mean this makeup will age you instead of helping you look younger.
With that in mind, next time you're picking out a foundation, keep these tips in mind to make sure that you'll be getting the youthful look you want.
