Sorry if you’re not a morning person, but the way that we start our day sets to the tone for the next 24 hours. Will we be cranky, productive, sluggish? Will we have a period of healthy eating and drinking enough water, or will it be a cheat day? It all goes back to what we’ve done when we first get up in the morning.

If you'd like to set the tone for a weight loss day, consider modifying what you eat for breakfast, Dr. Barry Sears, the leading authority in anti-inflammatory nutrition, author of the Zone Diet book series, and president of the non-profit, Inflammation Research Foundation tells us.

"Eat a balanced breakfast with 25 grams of protein, 12 grams of fat, and about 35 grams of carbohydrate," he suggests.

Why? "The way to burn stored fat is to balance the levels of insulin in the blood so that stored body fat can be released to burn in the muscles and liver." Fascinating!

And what's the one thing you should NEVER do, according to Dr. Sears? Skipping the meal altogether! "Not eating breakfast will increase the levels of cortisol that blocks the release of stored body fat for energy."

So, there you have it: eating a balanced breakfast will set you up to burn more fat throughout the day. Now go make yourself one of these delicious breakfast recipes!
