The One Thing You Should Never Do When Cleaning Your Closet

It's almost that time again--time to roll up your sleeves, open every closet and get to work sorting out "keep," "sell" or "donate" piles. That's right--it's spring cleaning time, ladies! The most wonderful time of year.

Who doesn't love hitting the reset button on their wardrobe, and making a little side cash while they're at it?

While it sounds easy enough--if you never wear, don't fit it, or just don't like, let it go--we know it's not that easy sometimes. Especially if you're emotionally attached to something... or even if you're just on the fence about it (so hard to make the final call!).

So, what do experts say are the one rule you absolutely must live by for that bi-annual closet clean? Click to find out >>

Hoard designer items because you paid alot for them! We spoke to Lindsay Martinsen, Brand Style Manager at, who revealed that this is one of the biggest mistakes women make when cleaning their closets (or, rather, not cleaning them).

"Don't cling to the stuff you don't use, no matter how expensive it was to buy. It's easy to justify hoarding tendencies around designer duds or handbags if the item was big chunk of change upfront. But the truth is, you feel guilty about not using that Coach purse every time you look at it, and it's taking up precious real estate in your closet."

So true! What else did she say?

"Selling clothes is increasingly pain-free with online marketplaces, such as thredUP, which ship clean out bags directly to your door."

That's right, as Elsa would say it's time to "Let it go!" The designer swap will make you the most money on re-sale sites, too, so even more of a reason to let it go. Don't let it collect dust in your closet.

So, there you have it--the one thing you should never do when cleaning your closet. Feeling inspired to do a clean this weekend!?
