Belly fat is one of the hardest things to lose. For most people, it can be a major roadblock in their weight loss journey if they’re not following the right diet and exercise plan. In addition to a daily sweat session and eating fat-burning foods, experts say that taking certain vitamins can also help target this stubborn area as they help replenish your body with the nutrients and minerals it needs to get the job done.

Studies have found that people with low levels of vitamin D tend to have more belly fat. In fact, Medical News Today reports that increasing your daily intake of vitamin D is a great first step in getting rid of belly fat, which is recommended through supplementation or fortified foods like fatty fish, egg yolks, and some dairy products.

 

"Supplements can fill in the gaps but it is always better to try to meet your nutritional needs with foods that contain fiber, phytonutrients, and so much more," Baylor College of Medicine dietitian Keli Hawthorne tells WebMD

Vitamin D also plays a huge role in how your cells respond to insulin, which is a hormone that is secreted from the pancreas. It acts as a transporter for glucose to get to the cells as it’s needed to create energy. How well insulin pushes glucose into cells is called "insulin sensitivity” and the more sensitive your cells are to insulin, the better as a decreased sensitivity means that the calories you’ve consumed will end up being stored as fat instead of being burned as energy.
