The Unexpected Foundation Trick Every Woman NEEDS To Know

Everyone knows that foundation is an essential component to every makeup look. It is the foundation after all… So if your foundation is perfect, then you’re creating an even canvas for the rest of your makeup. But if it’s not the right formula for your skin type or features irritating or drying ingredients, you could be setting yourself up for an unflattering caked-on look.

Most people use a traditional makeup brush or a makeup sponge to apply their foundation, but it looks like celebrity makeup artist Rebeca Restrepo has an unexpected hack for getting the perfect dewy finish every time—just add water to your foundation?

Restrepo, who has worked with stars like Mandy Moore, Emily Blunt, and America Ferrera, suggests swirling your favorite foundation with water before you apply it to get a red-carpet level glow.  “It adds moisture without any excess oil and makes the skin look even more radiant,” she tells Byrdie.

Interesting, right? Check out some of our favorite foundations that always deliver and help us get poreless, even skin:

Matte + Poreless Foundation ($7.99)

Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation ($64)

Fenty Beauty By Rihanna Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation ($34)
