Walmart Shoppers Call Their Chicken Prices A 'Scam' In TikTok Video
Two Walmart shoppers recently posted a video where they looked a little deeper into the large package of chicken breasts they purchased at their local store.
The package said it contained 5.01 pounds of chicken breast and cost $13.38 at $2.67 a pound. While that may seem like a decent deal, the shopper then placed the package on a food scale, and the weight was the same as on the package. But then, he took out all of the chicken from the package and placed it onto the cleared food scale, and after re-weighing, it read 4.09 pounds.
Finally, he put the chicken's packaging on top of the scale, and it measured back to 5.01 pounds, proving his theory that the chicken was being measured and priced to include the weight of the packaging, not just the meat itself, as many customers would believe. They called the entire situation a "scam."
Walmart Shoppers Rant About Their Chicken Prices In The Comments Section
After the Walmart shopper in the TikTok video noticed that the packaging added extra weight to the chicken's price, he said, "You're paying more for this container."
In the caption, the poster of the video wrote, "I had no clue."
"Walmart [and] possibly other grocery stores are scamming all of us."
The video led to other Walmart shoppers ranting about the store, its food items, and its prices in the comments section.
"Wow," wrote a TikTok user.
"That's Walmart for ya," commented another.
"That's just wrong," added a user.
While some debated back and forth whether or not that was a legal or valid practice on the store's part, it frustrated many shoppers who understand just how expensive some grocery items like chicken are these days already, and only want to pay a fair price for basic food.
