Applying beauty and skincare products on your eyes can make a huge difference when it comes to creating your look. As you grow older, it helps to understand the techniques that can enhance your best features, and at the same time, learn the tricks that can conceal signs of aging.

Let’s face it: having eye bags, under-eye circles, and wrinkles is pretty common—and absolutely normal. We definitely don’t blame you if you have an intensive skincare routine that focuses on your eye concerns alone. However, you should be aware that every so often, the habits we think could be improving our skin are actually doing the exact opposite.

In fact, there’s one common makeup mistake for under-eye circles that you might just be guilty of doing. Keep reading as beauty experts share what this is, and find out how you can prevent yourself from committing it.

Rough Application Of Beauty Products And Intense Makeup Removal

According to AM Aesthetics' licensed aesthetician Andrea McCollough, the worst mistake you could make is being too rough in applying products such as eye cream, eye shadow, and the like. She warns, "Being too rough with the delicate skin around the eyes can cause tiny blood vessels beneath the skin to break, in turn causing [or] worsening dark circles and under-eye bags."

In addition to this, Dr. Jennifer Lee, a board-certified dermatologist and spokesperson for the Celavive skincare line, explains that "the skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most delicate area of all your body." She advises, "Never scrub or rub too hard around the eyes."

You should always remember that this area in particular is very sensitive. Removing makeup or any form of product around your eye is just as important. If you rub it too much, it can "lead to broken capillaries as well as inflammation in the under-eye area," notes beauty expert Sanem Ahearn.

David Gray of Talking Tan suggests to stock up on really good makeup remover, particularly one that is "quite effortless and doesn't require much rubbing." Consider using a "cleanser or balm with a water and oil-based formula" as recommended by Ahearn. "[They] will glide right off and prevent any unnecessary rubbing which worsens under-eye circles."

More importantly, you should also incorporate certain habits into your daily routine like wearing sunscreen and keeping yourself hydrated at all times. Keep these tips in mind and we're pretty sure your skin will thank you for it!
