While researching one of my many fashion website ideas, I discovered this fantastic site called Stylesight that does fashion industry research on market trends, fashion forecasting, and color forecasting, and provides a suite of tools for anyone in the creative or product development industry – very cool.
But what does that have to do with you or me? Well, one of the free tools they offer is complete shopping maps for New York, LA, Paris, London, Cote d’Azur, Barcelona, Milan, Rome, Florence, and Tokyo. Stylesight uses the Google maps technology to allow you to filter down by neighborhood (or arrondissement if you’re in Paris) and choose the stores you want to visit from their extensive list of fashion/beauty boutiques, shops, and mega retail stores. Then they give you a fancy-schmancy list of addresses and phone numbers. The best part of the whole tool is the ability to pick the stores you want to visit, plan your route, and print your map.
This would have been so handy last time I was in Paris. Wandering around a new city can be rather intimidating (and having a map in hand makes me feel too much like a tourist when all I really want is to look like a native). So, next time you’re in one of the world’s fashion capitals, check out Stylesight’s shopping map and study your favorite neighborhoods – you’ll look like a pro when you’re really just exploring.
I used this last weekend for my exploration around the Lower East Side in Manhattan – it saved me from walking into the, shall we say, questionable shops you might find there.
