If fall’s burgundy trend didn’t speak to you, how about the season’s most sought-after print? Exaggerated florals and tropical motifs are out, and digital prints are in. With a graphic, almost tie-dye, kaleidoscopic look, this abstract pattern is certainly “out there.” And so is the design process that led to its creation: Helmut Lang got his inspiration from spider webs created by bugs on drugs (weed, LSD, and caffeine, to be exact!), while Ports 1961 researched Optical Art and french artist Victor Vasarely for their prints. Vera Wang, Elie Tahari, and Monique Lhuillier imitated the result of action painting, while other designers actually cut-and-pasted geometric pieces of a puzzle to reach a similar end.
However the prints came to be, they are certainly here and sure to be bestsellers soon.
