Jet Setters Are So 2008: Donna Karan Markets To Parachuters For Her New "Casual Luxe" Label
August 3, 2011
The Donna Karan Casual Luxe Collection.
Story time. Let me present you with the description that accompanies Donna Karan’s new Casual Luxe line on Shopbop, where prices exceed $3,000 an item…
“Luxurious, dressed-down, and effortlessly cool. Pre-fall’s palette looks out an urban window–the elements of nature and architecture, weathered with age…”
Donna, it appears you’ve taken the “parachute” inspiration a little too literally. The line’s name is apt–it is indeed luxe the “parachute jumpsuit” & “full parachute dress” both retail for $1,295, and yet still blatantly casual in kind of a “meh” way. Not super impressed by the Armageddon/Jurassic Park/Top Gun kinda vibe. We could probably just jack a similar look from our local flight school and save our thousand bucks for the actual jumping out of the plane part.
What do you think?
Check out the rest of the line (including the $500 “long-sleeved tee”) here at Shopbop.
PS: This whole situation is very reminiscent of the “Rubber Diamond Ring” disaster from a few weeks ago. And maybe a little tinge of the “derelict collection” from Zoolander…
