Why: I’ve often gone to a restaurant, had a decent but uninventive meal and grumbled afterwards to my boyfriend about the steep price saying, “I can make that I home.” Even once in a while, this complaining comes to fruition and I made a somewhat recognizable meal based loosely on the one from the restaurant.
This DIY attitude led me to pick up The Herbal Body Book, which covers recipes for everything from soap and lip balm to body scrubs and insect repellent — all with natural ingredients. Many of the directions are easy and simple to follow, such as the body scrub of sea salt and warmed olive oil. While I’m not ready to pitch all my store-bought products yet, this book is an excellent primer for anyone who doesn’t like what’s in her department store cosmetics.
