One of the biggest awards events each year is the Golden Globes Awards. The big show took place on Jan. 7, 2018, and we could not wait to see what some of our favorite actresses wore on the red carpet–Emma Stone, especially.
Emma Stone was nominated for “Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” for her leading role in Battle of the Sexes, a true-story film about the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Last year, Emma Stone won “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” for La La Land.
Needless to say, the 29-year-old actress is killing the game in Hollywood, so we were pretty convinced she was going to wear something amazing to the 2018 Golden Globes–and she didn’t disappoint. Before Stone revealed her incredible Golden Globes gown, we made a few predictions about what she would wear based on past wardrobe choices. Here are some of Stone’s past red carpet looks.
–2017 Premiere Of Battle of the Sexes
At the premiere of Battle of the Sexes in London this past Oct., Emma Stone wore a flowy, floral-printed white Louis Vuitton gown. “Not only did the undulating allure of the sculptural sleeves take my breath away, the impeccable grace and beautiful simplicity with which Emma wore the delicately glinting gown made it one for the books,” RCFA reported.
–2017 AFI Life Achievement Award Gala
At the 2017 AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute to Diane Keaton this summer, “The La La Land starlet chose a mixed print Loewe frock with black Stella Luna shoes,” Perez Hilton reported. The dress featured double color-blocking at the top, plaid at the waist, and red and black checkers at the bottom for a look you could not ignore!
–2017 89th Annual Academy Awards
Emma Stone wore custom-made Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci with Tiffany & Co. jewelry at the 89th Annual Academy Awards in Feb. “In the spirit of La La Land‘s retro theme, the gown was flapper-inspired, with tiered beaded tassels all around the bottom of the skirt,”
–2017 32nd Santa Barbara International Film Festival
The actress stunned in this Stella McCartney Dress at the 32nd Santa Barbara International Film Festival in Feb. “The silhouette of this one-piece was striking on her—from the graceful swoosh of the asymmetrical neckline to the sculpted sleeve and pockets—especially when paired with her peachy-pink lip,” RCFA reported.
Rumor has it that many female celebrity actresses will be wearing black in protest of the recent sexual harassment controversy in Hollywood. “No specific stars are named, but several nominees have already been vocal in speaking out against Hollywood harassment, including Meryl Streep and Jessica Chastain,” Vanity Fair reports. “Though many stars have worn pins and accessories to express support for causes including the ACLU, the safety pin movement to support marginalized populations, the Charlie Hebdo attacks and more, this is the first time that actress have banded together in a full show of sartorial solidarity,” People reports.
We wondered: based on her past red carpet looks, what would Emma Stone wear on the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet? A show-stopping piece like the Lowe dress? A classic, glam dress like her Stella McCartney gown? Something feminine and floral like the Louis Vuitton gown? Or, a time-capsule piece like her Givenchy dress?
Well, we no longer have to wait to find out. Stone posed on the Golden Globes 2018 red carpet with tennis legend Billie Jean King wearing a custom black Louis Vuitton one-shoulder gown with an elegant and subtle lace overlay.
–2018 Golden Globes
She looked stunning, as always, but her choice of the designer may have had a lot to do with the fact that Stone scored her first major campaign with Louis Vuitton back in October. Overall, she looked more subdued than years past, but Stone likes to keep things current and her black gown was in line with the Golden Globes’ Time’s Up campaign.
The even bigger story this year was Stone’s emerald eyes and violet lips, which her makeup artist Rachel Goodwin revealed on Instagram carried a political message of strength and hope: “My color palette for today’s #goldenglobes looks inspired by fierce women and forces of nature”
Mission accomplished: Stone was both fierce and a force of nature at the 2018 Golden Globes.
