From the moment Shoshanna texted Ray during the season 2 premiere of GIRLS, we knew emojis were the new words. Symbols like kissy smiley faces, praying hands and, yes, poop, are a very important part of the way we communicate today. Not only are me and my 20-something year-old-friends into using symbols instead of words in our texts, but my parents, aunts and uncles ALSO love using these tiny images. Maybe even more than the under-40 set do…(we’ve all gotten that text from our mom with every color heart emoji there is right?!)
We’ve been holding out for cheese and fingers crossed emojis (HOW do they still not have those?!), but the next best thing to getting some new symbols is getting the ones we already love on clutches and loafers. Edie Parker, a fashion industry favorite, and Del Toro designed pieces exclusively for Moda Operandi featuring our favorite smileys, animals and more. For each pair of Del Toro loafers with emojis, there’s an Edie Parker clutch with a hashtag to explain what the emojis mean. For example, there’s the Del Toro #Dabomb Loafer ($340) with a bomb and fire on each shoe. Then there’s a matching Edie Parker #Dabomb Flavia Clutch ($1,595) that literally says #DaBomb. Basically we’re pretty much #obsessed with the whole thing, since it combines our two loves of non-English speak: symbols and hashtags.
