We heard earlier this year that Alexander Wang was teaming up with Samsung to create a limited-edition bag. Wondering how THAT collab came about? We are too. Even Wang himself tells WWD that this project “…is a great example of how technology and style can come together in an unexpected but really meaningful way”. Good, glad to know we’re not the only ones who think this is an unlikely combo.
But we have to say, the result is actually pretty cool. Wang asked a bunch of stylists, photographers and super-influential friends to sketch images using the Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone. He then used their doodles as the inspiration to create the print for the bag. The lambskin Wallie Gym Sack ($550) features leather corners and a black and gray print on leather, a first for Wang. The drawstring backpack will then go on sale exclusively on AlexanderWang.com this Thursday, August 22nd and will hit stores this September. The proceeds for the bag will go to Art Start, a charity that helps at-risk children nurture their creative talents. So who cares if this collab is really that random, it’s for a good cause, and that’s something anyone can get behind.
