Ever Wondered What To Wear With Leggings? Here's Your Answer

We’ve all heard the constant debate of whether or not leggings constitute as pants. The way I see it, it’s not necessarily that leggings aren’t pants, it’s just a matter of what to wear with leggings and how you wear them. As long as you’re keeping it classy and what you’re pairing with your leggings covers your bottom, leggings are more than okay. Also, what I love about wearing leggings is that since they’re form fitting, you can have fun with layering baggier clothing on top and use the leggings as a way to slim out the rest of your figure. Plus, leggings are also so much warmer than tights. So on those especially cold days, when you want to dress warm and cozy and still feel comfortable… leggings are the way to go!

Now that we shared some reasons why leggings can be pants, here are some clothing suggestions for what to wear with leggings that will make you feel comfortable AND look good.

Outfit #1: Long cardigan and a graphic t-shirt

This outfit is perfect for doing errands, grabbing coffee with a friend, or just hanging around your apartment/house. We love this look because a casual t-shirt and leggings are the comfiest clothing combo ever. The long cardigan works to balance out the t-shirt and the leggings from looking too casual. Plus, the long cardigan helps cover up your bottom, keeping this look put together versus looking messy.

Adidas Originals Big Logo Dots Tee ($30)

Outfit #2: Leather leggings, oversized sweater, and funky jewelry

Leather leggings can turn a simple outfit into something totally edgy. We recommend changing up your typical leggings look by trading your usual black cotton leggings for a sleek faux-leather pair. The faux-leather leggings help slim down your figure the same way regular cotton leggings do, but the change of material really transforms the entire look. Plus, faux-leather leggings are just as comfortable as regular leggings, as long as you find the right pair that fits you the best! We also paired these leggings with an oversized turtleneck sweater, because leggings are perfect for wearing less-form fitting clothes without looking like you’re drowning in your outfit. Lastly, this necklace brings everything together. A statement piece takes basic leggings and a sweater from boring to funky.

Topshop Wet-Look Leggings ($35)

J. Crew Oversized Striped Turtleneck ($55)

Bar III Gold-Tone Black Feather and Crystal Statement Necklace ($44.62, down from $59.50)

Outfit #3: Poncho, long sleeve shirt, and tie-up ballet flats

This outfit is essentially an ensemble triple threat. It’s cozy, chic, and warm. The poncho is perfect to throw on when you don’t have too much time to get ready but want to look put together, and the leggings work to balance out the baggier poncho fit. We also recommend pairing the poncho with a long-sleeve fitted shirt to help keep your outfit balanced and form-fitting. Lastly, these lace-up flats add a girly element to your black leggings.
