Erin Fetherston's line has been catching my desiring eye recently. A Bay Area native and UC Berkeley graduate (who has recently been considered as a finalist for the Vogue/CFDA fashion fund), Featherston studied fashion at Parson's in Paris. Her impressive education and French influence is definitely reflected in her line. It has a haunting, ethereal grace worthy of a modern Daisy Miller or Gabriel Garcia Marquez's reality-suspending romances.
I can't help but imagine that any woman wearing her frocks would resemble an urban seraphim, her heels suspended just a few inches above the dirty pavement and her cares long distanced from the fashion woes of normal mortals. Airy and delicate, Fetherston's gowns are truly lust-worthy. It's no wonder that celebrity fans of her designs include fashionistas Kirsten Dunst, Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Zooey Deschanel, and Winona Ryder.
Take a look at three of the designs I've been drooling over recently…
Highlight your lovely shoulders in this floaty, Grecian-inspired gown ($1,788).
Simple and versatile, this dove gray frock ($562) will be a staple in your closet for years to come.
Understated and classy, this sexy dress ($1,130) shows off great taste and the often overlooked beauty of the female collarbone.
Too bad the prices are enough to pull any angel back down to earth with a resounding thud. But wait! Fetherson is slated to be the ninth designer for Target's budget-friendly GO collection. And here is a sneak peak at her much more juvenile, slightly disappointing line for Target.
The heart-happy garments should be debuting this month. If only Miss Fetherston had understood that Target consumers might be older than fifteen and fans of her more mature work. I'll still take a second look at these when they hit stores, but, for now, I'm worried that none of her more affordable wares will be worth the trouble.
