Show: Tracy Reese
Where: Bryant Park Fashion Tent, The Plaza
Goodies: Stellar Joico K-Pac Penetrating Reconstructor (perfect for my newly bleached hair), an aqua, raw silk envelope thanks to Circle of Friends (a new anti-smoking initiative), a strange pink lipstick by Mally (in an even stranger faux pink snakeskin case) and white fishnets by Hue (I plan to dye mine a different color entirely).
Celebs Spotted: Tracy Reese show was shockingly laid back, down to earth, friendly and accommodating. Cheesy High fashion, high botox types sat comfortably next to cowboy boots and white t-shirts as everyone bopped their heads to the music. Attending celebrities were dancer cum actresses, Bree Turner (The Wedding Planner), and the gorgeous Zoe Saldana (The Terminal), not to mention a large slice of the Reese family itself.
Thoughts: Reese’s new line is gorgeous. A highly feminine mix of silly and sexy, inspired by the Belle Epoque of turn-of-the century New Orleans culture, it is sultry, sinister, sweet, colorful and romantic. Mixing seersucker with lace, embroidery with velvet, and sequence with knits and silk, the entire line screamed flirtatious and fun… All in gentle hues of tan, cornflower, buttercup, pecan, blush and sea blue that focus on a woman’s silhouette. Flirty slips and flashy trousers were coupled with boleros and trench coats, tiered skirts and beaded bags.
Reese’s down home attitude served the now-torn city the first glimpses of its revival. An African American from Detroit, Reese paid homage to her grandmother’s sense of style and the Mississippi River from the get go, as a list of leggy toothpicks smiled and sauntered her pieces down the catwalk. At first, I thought it would be cruel to describe her to be about as comfortable and graceful as a giraffe shot in the neck with a cannonball. But when she exited the tent after the show in a giraffe print frock, what can I say? We must be telepathically connected!
