Fashion Week Jumps On The GreenWagon

It’s clearly safe to say Eco is the new black.  Fashion Week NYC is in full swing and one of the most fabulous and buzz-worthy events revolved around those three little R’s that have become so super-chic of late: Renewable, Reusable and Recycled.

The event: The annual Earth Pledge FutureFashion show, which “invites top American and European designers to create fashions using natural and sustainable materials”. 28 citizens of the design world’s crème de la crème (including Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, and, of course, Stella McCartney) rocked the catwalk with eco-conscious and critically lauded designs.

From elegant couture to ethical street wear, materials used included organic cotton and wool, bamboo, corn-based fibers, recycled fibers, and biopolymers. Sound less than glam? Not a bit — we hear whispers of “to die for”, and Vogue called it “fashion at its best”.

Alas, we won’t be buying any of these one-of-a-kind creations off the rack any time soon, but if you’re in the area, you can head over to Barneys to gaze at the creations displayed in their famed windows. And hopefully the success of this event will create a trickle-down effect – from the catwalk to our closets.

In the meantime, slip into something a little more green with these Earth-friendly dresses. After all, Spring is right around the corner. What better time to go Eco?
