The world of fashion can be a seriously competitive sport, especially when you throw in critics, celebrities and something called the Internet that makes one (perhaps misplaced) opinion seem like the insult heard round the world. It’s a time when egos are inflamed, all eyes are on fashion and designers and brands are in a fishbowl, with the public constantly staring in and tapping on the glass. No wonder egos clash!
Need proof? Take Hedi Slimane’s creative direction of Saint Laurent Paris, which has received some serious slack for dropping the Yves of former YSL glory. In the wake of the brand transition, a cult favorite T-shirt surfaced on the backs of fashion bloggers and editors, even making it’s way onto store floors right next to Saint Laurent merchandise: “Ain’t Laurent Without Yves.” Royally annoyed by the shirt itself, much less it’s placement in partner stores, Hedi went after well-known French boutique Collette, recalling more than $200K in Saint Laurent spring 2014 pieces from the store because the owner was selling the “Ain’t Laurent” tee.
But this isn’t the first cat fight off the cat walk that has grabbed the attention of many more than just the fashion elite. While the Hedi Slimane vs. Collette Boutique is the most recent fashion feud, these other shut downs, call outs and serious snubbing from the past few years had us on the edge of our seats.
