I’m always fascinated by the fact that, no matter how vigilantly I maintain my umbrella’s position directly above my head or against the wind, my hair always winds up damp. Hair products, it now appears, know this, and smoothing options abound. But straightening balms/creams/serums/gels usually leave my fine hair some combination of flat and greasy. The two products below, though, not only guarded against rainy-day frizz, they also kept my hair’s shape relatively intact. Perhaps I’ll ditch the umbrella altogether next time it rains (so, tomorrow).
I was pleasantly surprised when John Frieda’s Weather Works Weather Proofing Style Sealant Crème ($5.49) gave my limp locks a bit of lift after blow-drying. This stuff went a step beyond the original Frizz Ease’s smooth-and-shiny m.o. to add some much-needed volume and hold.
Nexxus Sleek Memory Straightening Smoothing Spray ($13.99), more similar to a traditional straightening product, works with heated styling tools to make hair smoother and sleeker each time you blow-dry or flatiron. Happily, it also cut down significantly on bad-weather hair woes like that wet-dog look you get after rained-on hair has dried. None of that here.
